!3 May 2007 - Our rally

We had a really wet and windy day today, but we stuck it out!
The only thing that changed was that we wrapped the whole rally up by about 3 o'clock this afternoon. We moved everything forward about an hour, and that left everyone free to go and get home into the dry!

Today started off reasonably well - it was dry and calm, and the sun was trying to come out - but this was just before 7am today. The forecast was dire - wet and windy all day..... and it was (unfortunately) correct.

Jason set up the gazebo over the back of the van, and had plenty of stock to sell - Tim, Philip, Stephen, David and Laurie had all also emptied their garages and brought things to sell. The Macs had a sort out at home and had a stall selling various books, CDs and videos.

The first two cars arrived around 9, and by late morning we had 50 cars on display! There were 52 cars pre-booked, some of these did not turn up because of the weather, but 10 cars who weren't booked in, turned up anyway! It was lovely to have such support today.

Annette and Tony had their Scalextric tracks set up in the barn - it was lovely and warm in there too as the heating was put on  -a place for us all to dry out!  Paul and I managed to get the 3 fastest laps on the speed track - I'm well chuffed with winning a Hornby model car kit! We set the lap times fairly early in the morning and no-one beat us!
They raised some money for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, unfortuantely not as much as they would have liked to. As the weather was against us the general public weren't visiting Michelham Priory today, or spending time sitting in the courtyard.

A well earned coffee in the restaurant before getting home, unpacking the car and drying off ........ it was a really good day despite the weather.

RALLY 2007 - 13TH MAY

This year our rally is on Sunday May 13th at Michelham Priory, Upper Dicker, East Sussex.
The venue is easy to get to - signposted from the A27 and A22.
From the A27, heading towards Eastbourne from Lewes, take the 1st exit at the roundabout at Drusillas, going towards Berwick. Follow the road across the railway line, past Arlington reservoir and towards Upper Dicker. As you go past the Plough pub on your left take the next right by St Bedes Upper School. Michelham Priory is about a mile and a half on your right.

All being well we should be on the south lawn in front of the house - if the weather turns out to be really rubbish (as it as while I write this), and the lawn is too wet, then we will be displaying the cars amongst the flower beds on the north side of the house - where we have been for the last two years.

Entries are accepted on the day - £9 per car, with driver and 1 passenger - group rate is payable on the day for additional passengers. We would like everyone to be on site by 10am so there is a good display for the paying public to see.
Pre-booked entries only are garunteed a rally plaque, and are elgible for prizes. There should be a few plaques available for people who arrive on the day.

Special event this year is a Scalextric track in the barn: Tony is running two tracks: Fastest Lap - prize for the fastest lap of the day - £1 a go, and a 4 lane Race ya Mates track - £1 per lane for 10 minutes - how many laps can you complete? Money raised will be divided between ESMMC and the Trevor Mann Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital where their son spent the first four months of his life.

Elaine will be running her raffle again, and Jason is running a parts stand on behalf of the club - members are bringing and selling their spares and paying a small percentage to the club for doing so.
